Review by Sean
When Ethyrfield were pointed out to me by someone whose musical opinion I trust, their words to describe them were: “think Sabbath with 90s grunge bleeding all over it. Fucking gorgeous mate.” As you could imagine, this intrigued me, so, I dove into the EP eager to hear something special.
I was not disappointed.
Things kick off with ‘Ignitor‘. It has massive Alice in Chains vibes, particularly the extremely catchy and memorable chorus. I heavily dig it.
Second up is ‘Free the Dog‘. There’s more a sort of post-grunge sound to this one, with a heavy groove, think early BSC, but by way of Seattle, not Kentucky.
‘Never Odd or Even‘ comes at you with a fast paced sound, and almost frenetic basslines at times. But I was loving the bits that flowed too. There’s almost a Vintage Caravan sound here. Belter.
Lastly we have ‘Taurus‘, which continues the groove. It’s a truly phenomenal end to a sensational EP.
See this band, whatever it takes, you won’t regret it. Now if you’ll excuse me…
“Iiiiii aaaam your masteeeer of fire. The Ignitor!”
